The Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce's annual membership drive is under way, and the hunt is on for new members.
This year's theme revolves around "hunting" for new members, and the breakfast held last week to begin the drive featured Membership Chairman Jean Cadney all dressed up in camouflage and ready for the game. She challenged everyone in attendance to go out and seek new members to help the chamber promote the quality of life in Greenwood.
"My first experience being a part of the chamber membership committee was a fun and competitive one, so I wanted to draw upon this experience and bring that same kind of enthusiasm to this year's drive," Cadney said. "We are looking for and pursuing new members, so the hunting concept seemed logical."
The membership committee has divided itself into four teams, with 10 members on each team. Team captains include Cadney, who is heading up the Sharp Shooters team; vice chairman Barbara Arnold who is leading the Greenwood Badgers; Don Brock Jr., who is in charge of the Stalkers, and Pann Powers, whose team is the Head Hunters.
Chamber membership is open to anyone, whether it be an individual or a business. The chamber sponsors many community events and projects such as the Roy D. Martin Delta Band Festival and parade, Fourth of July festival, 300 Oaks Road Race, educational projects and scholarships, Garden and Patio Show and Salute to Agriculture and more.
A mid-campaign meeting has been set for March. At that time, the top membership recruiters on each team will be awarded. Prizes have been donated by various businesses in the area.
