The Greenwood School Board will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the new school year's budget.
"This is for the public to ask any questions they have or make any suggestions," said Steve Loden, the School District's finance director. The hearing will take place at the district's central office on Howard Street.
The budget currently stands at around $27 million, according to Loden.
Most of it, 85 percent, is for salaries and fringe benefits.
Loden said that, based on projected enrollment, he has budgeted for two fewer teacher positions.
"It will be handled by attrition. We won't let someone go, but if someone retires or moves to another district we won't fill that position," he said.
Another 9 percent of the budget covers maintenance and operation, which is budgeted at $500,000. The projected expenditure per child is $20.
Loden emphasized that a decision on the budget will be made July 5, not at Tuesday's hearing.
Loden said he is still waiting on several big-ticket allocations before he can complete the budget.
"I can accurately guess what these allocations will be. But as long as we have the time, I would rather wait for a solid number and not have to redo the budget," Loden said.
Among those items is a $3 million curriculum grant, up to $700,000 from the state for special education and School District taxes.
At the end of the fiscal year Thursday, Loden will consider options for using federal carryover money.
