A Greenwood woman has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the theft of a purse.
Belinda Adams, 45, 312 Jackson St., was arrested Sunday night at her residence.
The charges stem from a Sept. 9 incident around 2:14 p.m., Adams is alleged to have gone into an unlocked vehicle parked at Westside Food Mart on Fulton and Gibbs, said Deputy Chief Huntley Nevels.
Authorities allege she took a purse from the vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle was inside the store when she claimed to have seen Adams taking her purse from the vehicle. She then ran from the store and confronted Adams, Nevels said.
The two women fought. Adams allegedly pulled a box cutter and began cutting the victim several times, Nevels said.
The deputy police chief said Adams fled the scene with the victim's purse, which contained $300.
No bond has been set for Adams.
The victim was treated and released at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
