VAIDEN - A five-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 left an Oxford man dead Friday night.
Dennis Christopher Roberts, 46, of County Road 470, Oxford, was killed in the accident.
Carroll County Coroner Bill Lord pronounced Roberts dead at 11:45 p.m. Roberts' northbound Ford Explorer crossed the median two miles south of Vaiden near the rest stop entering the southbound lane, authorities said.
His vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler driven by Charles Willis, 52, of Jackson, triggering a pileup involving two other trucks and a van.
Trooper Jim Miller of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol in Greenwood, who is investigating the accident, said the driver of one of the pickup trucks, Eric Sharp, 30, of Greenwood, received minor injuries and was treated at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Lord said Roberts was trapped inside his vehicle and removed by members of the Vaiden Fire Department.
Drivers of the other vehicles were Jimmy Morris, 54, of Calhoun City, and Betty Neely, 64, of St. Louis.
