Construction work will begin soon on Viking Range Corp.'s new $10 million dishwasher plant.
Malouf Construction was the lowest of four bids opened at a Leflore County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday.
Malouf bid $4.9 million for the project, which should last about nine months. Foil-Wyatt, the building's architect, had projected a full million above that at around $5.5 million.
Ralph McKnight & Son, Frazier Construction Co., and Jessco Inc. also submitted bids. Supervisors voted to take the bids under advisement to allow time for the architects to review the proposals.
Don Bowen, project manager with Malouf Construction, was pleased. "We have spent a lot of time looking over this."
Malouf Construction is no stranger to working with Viking Range Corp. They constructed the distribution center on U.S. 82 and The Alluvian hotel on Howard Street.
The new dishwasher plant is to be built behind the distribution center on U.S. 82.
Richard David, project architect with Foil-Wyatt Architects, said the building has been designed to blend with the existing facilities.
The plant will consist of 80,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 7,000 square feet of office space.
Viking expects to move into its new location in February, according to David's estimates. Dishwashers are the only major Viking appliance not manufactured locally.
