The city's biannual Clean Up, Green Up campaign is set, but organizers are asking volunteers to adhere to a few changes this spring.
The cleanup effort, sponsored by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce's Community Pride Committee, will be held the week of May 2-7. The week is just prior to the city's new River to the Rails Festival on May 14.
While groups are asked to clean up any day of the week, there is still the big cleanup day on Saturday, May 7, said cleanup chairman Carolyn McAdams.
"This will give us a chance to spruce things up before the festival," said McAdams. "We want all of our visitors to come in and see a clean city. If we don't take pride in our community, no one else will."
This year, the committee would like to assign various areas that need cleaning up to the individuals, businesses and clubs planning to participate, McAdams said. In the past, volunteers have told the committee where they were going to clean up, and some key areas have gone unattended.
McAdams said she plans to visit businesses this week and make recommendations on what areas need the most attention.
She also encourages church youth groups to get involved in the effort.
"This provides our young people with an opportunity to make a difference in our community," McAdams said.
Any organizations or individuals who would like to participate should contact the chamber for a list of areas that need to be cleaned.
Gloves and bags will be provided. They can be picked up at the chamber office on the U.S. 82-49 bypass.
