Saturday will be a big day in Greenwood for both shoppers and merchants alike as Greenwood gears up for its second annual Citywide Sidewalk Sale.
The event, which began last year as a substitute to CROP Day, has begun to catch on. Merchants were pleased with last year's results and are hoping for more of the same success this year.
The Sidewalk Sale is just that.
Participating merchants will be moving a lot of their end-of-the-season merchandise onto their sidewalks, and shoppers should be able to find plenty of good deals around town. In addition to sidewalk bargains, area churches and civic clubs will be set up on the 300 block of Howard Street in garage-sale fashion, and they will be offering some neat bargains as well. Garage sale shoppers may find items such as books, toys, lamps, odds and ends, appliances, children's clothing and other items. Communities in Schools of Greenwood and Leflore County will also be demonstrating the art of making their willow furniture and selling it as well.
Following in the CROP Day tradition, several food and drink vendors will be on Howard Street, selling hot dogs, hamburgers, baked goods, lemonade, cotton candy, frozen drinks and other items.
Garage sale vendors will be ready for business around 8 a.m. Downtown stores, as well as other merchants around Greenwood, will start opening their doors as early as 8 a.m. too.
Nineteen stores, all Chamber members, are participating in the sidewalk sale. In each store, there will be a chance to register for shopping sprees worth $200, $100 or $50.
