CARROLLTON - It could be five or six years before the dream of a multi-purpose facility, livestock arena, and ball field complex comes into being at North Carrollton, George Johnson told Carroll County supervisors Monday.
Johnson, who is chairman of the government committee of the Carroll County Development Association, appeared before supervisors along with fellow member Harry Hart to bring the board up to date on CCDA's work on the project.
Given the go-ahead some months ago to assist in developing the 20-plus acre meadow across from Rosemary's Catfish into a recreational complex, CCDA hopes to present final plans during the new association's June general meeting, Johnson said. Architects at Mississippi State University are helping to draw plans.
Supervisors outlined priorities earlier. First, try and get the design and funding for a ballpark to help get playing space for teams in Carroll County. Johnson said application is being made to the state Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks for a matching grant to develop the ballpark.
"We want the community to understand when you get into community development, you are talking about three to six years," Johnson said.
President Marvin Coward said that although the project is being put together in stages, the structures being designed should be "linked together" in a practical way.
