The notorious Blue Lake alligator got a free ride to Jackson Tuesday night after it was captured by an official from the Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks.
"I'm glad that it's been removed. It will give some peace of mind to the residents," District 5 Supervisor Larry "Kite" Johnson said.
The official from the department made a preliminary investigation during the day to track down the alligator. After a two-hour hunt that night, the alligator was captured around 9:30 p.m. Johnson said he was told the alligator is 6 feet long.
Based on the initial search, the official does not believe there are any more alligators at this time, Johnson was told.
Sightings of the alligator began two weeks ago. Preston Boles, a resident on the lake, said he saw the alligator four times - one time " a little closer than I wanted."
"I'm very much relieved to hear that he is gone. It was a concern to the residents because nobody had any fences to keep the alligator from coming up from the lake," Boles said.
