Will Black shot back-to-back 1-over-par 73s to win the first annual Greenwood Junior Invitational by two strokes.
Black, from Calhoun City, started the second round Thursday at Greenwood Country Club three shots out of the lead.
Randall Weems of West Point shot a first-round 70.
Playing in the same group on Thursday, Weems and Black battled back and forth on the front nine. Weems hit his tee shot out of bounds on the par-5 12th hole and almost hit his second out, but he still managed to make a bogey.
Black started to pull away from Weems on the par-4 15th hole, where he made a birdie. Weems, who finished with a 79, made a bogey at the par-5 16th and then hit his tee shot on the par-4 17th hole out of bounds and made a triple-bogey 7.
Black shot a 34 on the front side with birdies at 5 and 9.
Weems' final-round 79 left him in fourth place at 149.
Cory Williamson of Collins shot 72 Thursday to finish two shots behind Black.
Greenwood's Brewer Upshaw shot 80 after an opening-round 87.
In the 14-15 age division, Kevin Brady of Brandon, Joseph Henderson of Laurel and Chad Ramey of Fulton finished in a three-way tie at 149. Brady and Ramey both made birdie on the first sudden-death playoff hole, the par-5 first hole, to eliminate Henderson from the playoff.
Brady's approach shot on the par-4 second hole from 155 yards wound up a foot from the hole. He tapped in for his birdie and the win.
"We saw some awful good golf for two days from some of the best junior golfers in the state when you consider the heat and the course set-up," said Randy Bensley, the PGA professional at Greenwood Country Club.
In the 12-13 age division, Fletcher Johnson of Belden shot 72 on the second day for a four-shot victory over Jacob Ross of Brookhaven. Johnson started the day five shots off the lead.
Greenwood's Anthony Ola had a solid front nine with a 38 en route to an 85. He wound up in eighth place.
In the 10-11 age bracket, Parker Rutherford of Vicksburg won by three shots with an 81. Golfers in this age group play the front nine on the first day and the back nine the next.
Nick Pritchard of Madison was second with an 84, while Greenwood's Steve Pannell was third with an 87.
In the 9-and-under division, Cooper Dunn of Greenwood took
second place at 100. Greenwood's Cole Whitfield and Kathleen Gallagher finished second and third, respectively, at 102 and 105.
