The recent murder of Greenwood attorney Richard Benz Jr. has garnered national attention.
In broadcast news, the Fox News show "On the Record with Greta van Susteren" began mentioning the case earlier this week.
The hourlong show features human interest stories and unsolved crimes.
In January, the show averaged 1.5 million viewers, according to the latest Nielsen ratings.
Viewers from this area sent in e-mails requesting attention to the case, according to Paul Schur, spokesman for Fox.
"It piqued her interest. There's a mystery to it," he said.
On Wednesday, Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks spoke by telephone with Van Susteren on the air.
In the interview, Banks told the story of Benz, who was shot in the back Jan. 23 while at home near Schlater.
The sheriff believes whoever shot Benz parked off the highway near the home and sneaked up to the house.
The assailant fired through the front window of his house, Banks said.
"His wife was in the room with him, and it's a miracle she didn't get hit," the sheriff told Van Susteren.
The attorney was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he died hours later from gunshot wounds in his chest and back.
Banks told the television host that several clients whom "he had probably had some words with."
This is an angle investigators have taken into consideration, the sheriff said.
Other investigative agencies are working on the case, including the FBI, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the state Crime Lab and Mississippi Justice Information Center.
Banks meets regularly with investigators for hours at a time behind closed doors at the sheriff's department.
He has declined to release the names of any suspects.
