A Greenwood man was arrested and charged with armed robbery after he broke into a residence early this morning and threatened three residents at gunpoint, according to Deputy Police Chief Huntley Nevels.
Ricky Adams, 27, of 1030 McLean St., remained in police custody this morning.
Nevels said Adams and another man broke into a home at 108 Oak St. around 2:10 a.m.
"The complainant heard a noise. When she got up, she saw two black males in the home wearing ski masks," the chief said.
Adams, Nevels said, was armed with a gun and, when confronted, he pointed the weapon at the residents and demanded money.
In their frantic and unsuccessful search for cash, the second robber began to pull the pants down on one of the victims in the belief that money was in his pockets.
At some point, the three victims were able to overpower Adams while the second robber fled the scene on foot, Nevels said.
The victims held Adams down until police arrived at the scene.
Police are continuing their investigation and hope to make a second arrest soon, he said.
Under state law, if convicted, Adams could serve a sentence of three years to life, depending on the recommendations of the jury or judge.
