Friends don't know where Brian Bramlett was going or why Michael Hayley was in a pickup truck this morning near Teoc.
But friends came to help them when they received a call that Bramlett and Hayley were involved in a one-car accident on Mississippi 7.
Bramlett, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital shortly after 7 a.m., said Faith Carpenter, a friend, who arrived on the scene just minutes after the accident.
Hayley, 18, came out of the accident with only a scratch.
Bramlett, a former Greenwood High School student, was listed in critical condition at the hospital and by mid-morning was transferred to Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.
Bramlett's mother, Lois White, said she didn't know the extent of her 17-year-old son's injuries. She hadn't seen her son before he was transported to the Greenville hospital.
White didn't know the nature of Bramlett's injuries. A nurse came out of the emergency room and told the family that Bramlett was conscious.
A number of friends and family waited in the corridors outside the emergency room in Greenwood to find out about Bramlett's condition.
One of those, Bryan Bollis, said he knew Bramlett and Hayley. Bollis owns red Toyota Tacoma truck Bramlett was driving this morning.
Bollis said he was surprised when relatives called him to check on him after hearing that Bollis' truck was involved in the accident.
At the time of the call, Bollis thought his truck was parked near his house in Teoc, he explained.
"I looked out the window, and it was gone," Bollis said.
The force of the accident appeared to shred the right side of the pickup. It shattered the windshield and twisted the truck's frame.
Carpenter said Bramlett is a good driver and doesn't have a history of accidents.
Troopers from the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol are investigating the accident. No details were immediately available.
