Mississippi Valley State University’s men’s basketball team got a game-high 25 points from Terry Collins against Alcorn Monday night in Lorman, but a deeper Alcorn bench proved to be too much as the Delta Devils lost 81-70.
Valley (3-22, 2-9 SWAC) kept it tight with Alcorn in the first half, going into the break only down 35-34. The Braves (12-11, 9-2 SWAC) were able to get out to a lead in the second half, outscoring Valley 46-36 to end the game.
Along with his 25 points, Collins grabbed seven rebounds and dished two assists. Tyronn Mosley had 18 points, two rebounds and five assists. Michael Barber had 10 points and three rebounds.
Valley’s next game is in Itta Bena on Saturday hosting Alabama A&M. Tip off is 6 p.m.
-Women’s basketball: The Devilettes’ losing streak plunged to 14 games after Saturday’s 85-63 loss to Jackson State, and a 74-51 loss to Alcorn in Lorman Monday night.
Krisen Hunt led Valley in scoring during Saturday’s loss. She had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Zaria Harleaux had 15 points and six rebounds, and Kerrigan Johnson had 14 points.
On Monday, Johnson led the Devilettes in scoring with 19 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Harleaux recorded 10 points, two rebounds and four steals. Lexus Eagle Chasing chipped in nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Devilettes (2-20, 0-11 SWAC) are still searching for their first SWAC win, and host Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Itta Bena for its next contest.
