Three men have been charged in an armed robbery in Black Hawk, according to a release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.
The release said deputies received a call about an armed robbery taking place at a Dollar General store at 8:15 a.m. Thursday.
A Mississippi state trooper arrived and confronted an armed suspect, who fled the store on foot.
Deputies saw a car exiting a nearby driveway and stopped it. They arrested the driver, 21-year-old Jonathan Alexander of Lexington, who they believe was responsible for driving the getaway car.
Authorities then began a search for 18-year-old Corleone Pate Jr., also of Lexington. Deputies arrested his father, 41-year-old Corleone Pate Sr. of Southaven, at a checkpoint two hours south of Black Hawk.
An off-duty game warden with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks encountered Pate Jr. while feeding cattle and the two men began to struggle. Authorities arrived and took Pate into custody.
The release said the warden was “severely bitten” by Pate Jr. but was treated at the scene.
Sheriff Clint Walker said Friday that no one was injured at the store and that a little under $1,000 was recovered from the robbery.
Pate Jr. and Alexander were both charged with armed robbery, with Pate Jr. also being charged with aggravated assault. Pate Sr. has been charged with accessory after the fact.
The three suspects were being held Friday at the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility.
Bond for Pate Jr. and Alexander was set at $1 million each. Bond for Pate Sr. was set at $75,000.
Among the law enforcement agencies involved in the manhunt were the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department, the Winona Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and officers with Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
