Pillow Academy’s Georgia Caroline Self takes control of a loose ball during a match against Starkville Academy Monday at PA’s Chazzy Moor Field.

The Pillow Academy girls soccer squad got its offensive swagger back Monday at home.

Experimenting with different offensive players throughout the game, the Pillow offense scored three goals in the second half against an outstanding Starkville Academy goalie in a 3-0 victory at Chazzy Moor Field.

Shooting at will throughout the game, the Lady Mustangs outshot Starkville 16-2 for the contest.

In a preview of a possible postseason matchup in October, the defending State AAAA Division II champs dominated the match with the Lady Volunteers.

Sophomore Katherine Giesbrecht scored her first varsity goal with 30 minutes left off a bad Starkville clear. Fellow sophomore Madison Barlow increased the lead to 2-0 when she scored off a deflected shot from Sarah Presley Howard.

Junior Caroline Brock came in on offense with 11 minutes left in the contest and scored a left-footed punch shot eight minutes later off a corner kick from Lillian Harvey.

Pillow dominated time of possession and outcornered Starkville 4-0. Goalie Madeline Maddox earned her first shutout of the season, benefitting from the outstanding defensive play of Mia Cole, Madeline Kelly, Kaylee Harden and Julia Love Lyon.

The Lady Mustangs (1-1) were back in action Tuesday versus Jackson Prep in Flowood.
