The Pillow Academy girls varsity soccer squad finished a perfect 6-0 in conference play after destroying visiting Washington School 4-0 Monday night at Chazzy Moor Field.
The perfect conference record represents the fifth straight year that Pillow has not lost a conference game.
Pillow overpowered the visiting Lady Generals, outshooting them 14-0.
Pillow was able to get on the board halfway through the first half when Avery Howard sent a ball through to sister Sarah Presley Howard for a tap-in and a 1-0 lead.
With 1:30 left in the first half, junior Caroline Brock sent a ball in the box to Georgia Caroline Self, who scored her first goal of the year to give Pillow a 2-0 lead.
Sarah Presley Howard’s corner kick in the second half bounced to Madeline Kelly, who scored from the left side to extend the lead to 3-0. And sophomore defender Kayley Harden closed out the scoring with five minutes left when she hit a shot in the net from 25 yards out.
Pillow dominated the contest, kicking six corner kicks to zero for Washington. Pillow’s domination of West Conference play in Academy AAAA Division 2 was clearly evident this season. The Lady Mustangs outscored their three opponents 26-2 in six games.
Pillow (7-4) plays at Starkville Academy Thursday.
The game offers a preview of a quarterfinal playoff matchup, scheduled at Pillow Monday, Sept. 30. If Pillow wins that contest, it will most probably have to travel to Meridian to face nemesis Lamar School on Oct. 3.
Pillow has played Lamar School in the playoffs for the last four years. Pillow defeated Lamar 3-0 last year in the semifinals, after losing three straight state championships by one goal to Lamar.
