Carroll Academy cruised a to a 32-6 win over Sylva Bay Academy in the second round of the MAIS Class 3A playoffs Friday night in Bay Springs.

The Rebels (10-2) will travel to Greenville next week to take on top-seeded St. Joseph in the semifinals. The Irish knocked off Central Holmes 42-27 Friday night. The winner next week advances to the state title game on Nov. 22 at JA.

“The first half was a battle. Our defense forced five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumbles), and we made a few adjustments to offset what they were doing on defense,” said CA head coach Bo Milton.

Senior quarterback Morgan Mims ran for 174 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He also threw for two scores as he was 3 of 4 for 69 yards. Touchdown passes went to Logan Taylor and Reese Fulton.

Lofton Holly ran for 60 yards on 13 carries, and John Marc O’Cain had 51 yards and a touchdown on nine tries.

Maddox Carpenter chipped in with 19 yards and a touchdown on five tries.

Taylor had two receptions for 60 yards.

In other second-round games Friday, Winona Christian beat Centreville 45-26, and Indianola defeated Marshall 27-12. Those two teams meet in the other semifinal game.
