Leflore County High School senior Willie McCline closed out his days as a Tiger with two third-place finishes at the State 2A meet held Monday at Pearl High School.
McCline ran the 100-meter dash in 11.09 seconds. He finished the 200 dash in 22.96 seconds, trailing two runners from North Side High School.
The Tigers’ 4x800 relay team of Anthony Johnson, Vedarius Fipps, Antwon Gibson and Lawrence Kyles placed third with a time of 9:12.43. North Side won the event in 8:44.88.
Leflore’s 4x200 relay team came in fifth with a time of 1:33.10. Team members are McCline, Anthony Johnson, Dekari Johnson and Fipps. They were first at the North 2A meet with a time of 1:31.61. The same four were seventh in the 4x100 relay with a time of 45.39 seconds.
Junior Maurice Edwards placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 98 feet.
Greenwood High: The Bulldogs competed in only one event at the State 4A meet Monday in Pearl and came home with second-place honors in the 4x100 relay.
The foursome of Travor Randle, Jamarion Addison, Daylen Metcalf and Kobe Chambers ran the race in 43.51 seconds. Lawrence County was first in 43.31 seconds, and McComb High School and South Pike were third with a time of 43.52 seconds.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Jireh Nevels placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.96 seconds. Arieyanna Glover was eighth in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches.
