Shane Houston Stephens continued his torrid pace as he pumped in 33 points in leading Pillow Academy to a 73-70 District 1-AAAA win over Bayou Academy Friday night at Pillow.
The Mustangs, who move to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play, outscored the Colts 36-21 in the fourth frame after trailing 49-37 through three quarters. Bayou led 18-12 after one and 30-29 at the half.
“It was an amazing game. We were down the entire game, and we trailed by 12 with six minutes to go and came back and won,” said PA head coach Wes Prather.
Stephens also had 11 rebounds and five assists. Josh Moor tacked on 13 points and eight boards, and Lawes McCool had 11 points.
In the junior varsity boys game, Pillow won 55-34 to improve to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in district. Pillow led 14-5 after one, 28-22 at the half and 47-32 after the third period.
Hayes Bennett had 19 points, and Drew Lamb tacked on 16 for the Mustangs. Charlie Robbins had 10 points.
Pillow plays host to Washington School Tuesday night.
n Carroll Academy: The Lady Rebels and Rebels pulled off a sweep of Newton County Academy Friday night in Decatur.
The Lady Rebels upped their record to 14-9 with a solid 49-31 win over the Lady Generals. Carroll led 14-4 after the first period and continued to build on its lead over the next two quarters. The Lady Rebels led 22-8 at the half and 34-16 after the third.
Gracie Turner had a big game as she scored 20 points, grabbed 10 boards and made four steals. Dru Chamblee had eight points, eight rebounds and four steals, and Mary Lakyn Boutwell had six points. Meri Brynn Reeves had five rebounds.
In the boys game, Carroll prevailed 62-31 as three players scored in double figures. Logan Taylor had 18, and Reese Fulton tallied 16 and had 12 rebounds. Hunter Grantham had 10 points.
Carroll (10-2) led 14-2 after one, 29-10 at the half and 42-24 after the third.
Carroll played at Sharkey-Issaquena Monday and visits Central Holmes Tuesday.
n Greenwood High: The Rams ended Greenwood’s 12-game win streak with a 63-58 triumph over the Bulldogs Friday night in Indianola.
Greenwood (14-4, 0-1 in Region 3) led 13-10 after the first, but Gentry took a 30-26 lead by halftime. The Rams held a slim 44-39 advantage after the third quarter.
DeAndre Smith led Greenwood with 18 points and three boards, and Jamairdrick Lawrence had eight points, four assists and three rebounds. Omar Emmons, Montrelle Harris and Javardrick Jackson had six points each.
Greenwood entertains Yazoo City Tuesday.
n Amanda Elzy: The Panthers secured their first win in Region 3-3A play with a 53-40 victory over visiting Humphreys County Friday night.
Elzy held leads of 8-6 after one, 22-15 at the half and 34-26 after the third period.
Reginald Miller had 27 points to lead Elzy, which is now 7-11 overall and 1-1 in district. Montrelle Boyd had 12 points, and Dontavious McGill had six.
Elzy is at Winona High School Tuesday.
n Leflore County: The Tigers dropped a 64-56 decision to South Delta Friday night in Itta Bena.
South Delta led 12-9 after the first, 27-22 at the half and 45-34 after the third period.
Derrick Singleton led Leflore (1-14) with 13 points. Cameron Williams and Jay Jackson had 12 points each.
Leflore is at Simmons Tuesday.
