The Greenwood High School boys extended their winning streak to seven games with a sweep of Leflore County and Amanda Elzy at the Leflore County Tournament the last two nights.
The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 53-27 Friday, and knocked off the Panthers 59-50 Thursday night in Itta Bena.
In Friday’s contest, Greenwood pulled away in the second quarter with a 16-1 run after only leading 11-9 after the first frame. The Bulldogs (9-3) led 37-21 after the third.
Javardrick Jackson led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jaydon Nwachi had 13 points, four steals and two assists, and DeAndre Smith had 11 points, five boards and four assists.
Marshakie Applewhite tacked on eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Cameron Williams had eight for Leflore (0-6).
Thursday against Elzy, Montrelle Harris poured in 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and made three steals for the Bulldogs. Jackson tacked on 10 points and 17 rebounds, and Applewhite had nine points and three rebounds. Jaimardrick Lawrence chipped in eight points, three boards and three assists.
Greenwood raced out to a 20-6 lead after the first period. Elzy sliced into the lead with a 12-7 run in the second to only trail 27-18 at the half. Both teams netted 32 points each in the second half.
Dontavious McGill led Elzy (4-6) with 12 points. Terry Randle had 10, and Reginald Miller tallied six points.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up their second straight win as they also beat Leflore County and Elzy at the tournament the last two nights.
Greenwood defeated the Lady Tigers 67-24 Friday to improve to 7-5 overall. The Lady Bulldogs led 16-9 after one, 24-10 at the half and 41-22 after the third.
Aliya Herron scored 17, and Alexzandria Glover had 16. Antwanette Regular tacked on 14, and Chloe Cooley had 13.
Jakya Thompson led Leflore (2-4) with 12 points. Kaylee Spivey tacked on seven.
In Thursday’s contest against Elzy, GHS won 56-40 as Alexzandria Glover had a career-high 20 points to go with four steals and two assists.
Herron tacked on 12 points, four steals and two assists, and Regular had nine points and two steals. Arieyanna Glover had seven points and six steals, and Cooley had six points.
Greenwood led 11-3 after the first period, 29-13 at the half and 47-30 after the third quarter.
Greenwood is at Holmes Central Friday.
Zamiya Brown led Elzy (3-7) with 11 points. Ashley Cooper had seven points, and Janay Williams had six.
Leflore County split a pair of games with O’Bannon High School Thursday. The Lady Tigers won 43-36 as Thompson had a team-high 13 points. Jamya Johnson chipped in nine points.
O’Bannon led 22-16 at the half, but the Lady Tigers rallied to outscore the Lady Green Waves 15-6 in the third and 12-3 in the fourth.
The Tigers dropped a 56-38 decision to O’Bannon, which led 23-22 at the half and 40-29 after the third period.
Derrick Singleton led Leflore with 13 points, and Jaylen Prayer had seven.
