Pillow Academy’s Madison Barlow boots the ball Wednesday. She scored a goal in her team’s 4-0 win over St. Aloysius.

The Pillow Academy girls soccer squad’s struggles on offense continued against division foe St. Aloysius of Vicksburg early on. But constant pressure starting halfway through the first half resulted in a dominating 4-0 victory over the defending Academy AAA state champions Wednesday in Vicksburg.

Pillow struggled on the artificial turf and could not get a shot on goal until halfway through the first half. But left forward Madison Barlow was able to tap in a loose ball after the mid water break to give Pillow a 1-0 lead.

Pillow took a 2-0 lead late in the first half when seventh grader Addison Weems shot one in from 20 yards out. It was Weems’ first career varsity goal.

Leading goal-scorer Sarah Presley Howard gave Pillow a 3-0 lead off a beautiful pass by fellow sophomore, Georgia Caroline Self. Howard was able to close out the scoring with a laser shot from 18 yards out, giving Pillow its 4-0 final margin of victory.

Pillow (5-3) is 4-0 in conference action and can clinch its fifth straight division title when it faces Washington School of Greenville on Monday.
