Carroll Academy’s Morgan Mims stops quickly as an Oak Hill defender moves in for the stop during their game Friday night in Carrollton. The Rebels rebounded from last week’s loss to Winona Christian to beat the Raiders 50-13 and improve to 6-2 overall.

Carroll Academy overcame a sluggish start to cruise to a 50-13 victory over Oak Hill Academy Friday night for homecoming in Carrollton.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 6-2 overall, while Oak Hill falls to 2-6.

“We came out sluggish, maybe from all the homecoming festivities and last week’s loss to Winona Christian,” said CA head coach Bo Milton. “We played hard, but we didn’t execute very well in the first half. We came out in the third quarter and put the game away.”

Carroll only led 6-0 after the first period as Morgan Mims scored from a yard out.

The Rebels went in front 20-6 by halftime as Mims scored on runs of three and one yard. He passed to Reese Fulton for the 2-point conversion on his second score.

Carroll tallied 24 straight points in the third period. Mims scored from 21 yards out and freshman Lofton Holly tacked on the 2-point run. Holly then scored his first varsity TD from a yard away, and John Marc O’Cain had the 2-point conversion to make it 36-6. The final score of the third came on a five-yard run by Noah Beck. Maddox Carpenter ran in for the 2-point run.

In the fourth, Carpenter scored from four yards out. Oak Hill scored a TD on the final play of the game.

Mims finished with 156 yards on 13 carries. Holly had 114 yards on 14 tries, and Carpenter, also a freshman, had 60 yards on five tries. O’Cain had 46 yards on four carries.

Logan Taylor had seven tackles, broke up two passes and picked off a pass. He also blocked an extra point.  Fulton and Hogan Costilow had three tackles each. Drew Haddon, Austin Smith and Mathis Beck each recovered a fumble.

Carroll hits the road next week to take on Tunica Academy.

DSA got on the scoreboard in the fourth as quarterback Jimmy Gibbs scored on a 40-yard run. He then hit Jaylen Prayer with the 2-point conversion.

Gibbs was 3 of 10 with an interception.
