Freshman Zamiya Brown poured in 29 points in leading the Amanda Elzy girls to a 39-21 Region 3-3A win over Winona High School Tuesday night in Winona.

The Lady Panthers, who are 7-12 overall and 1-2 in district, held a slim 10-6 lead after the first frame and increased it to 21-9 by halftime. Elzy led 29-11 after the third period.

Five other players scored two points each for Elzy.

In the boys game, Winona prevailed 58-54 as it held off a second-half rally by the Panthers. Winona led 16-14 after one and 40-26 at the half. Elzy held a 12-8 advantage in the third to cut it to 48-38 headed to the fourth period.

Reginald Miller led Elzy with 21 points, and Montrelle Boyd had 17 points. Darius Donley chipped in nine points.

Elzy hosts Gentry Thursday.

n Greenwood High: The Lady Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start in Region 3-4A as they posted a 69-40 win over visiting Yazoo City Tuesday night.

Greenwood, 11-8 overall, only led 12-10 after one but went in front 38-17 by the half with a 26-7 run in the second. The Lady Bulldogs led 55-29 after the third frame.

Antwanette Regular led the way with 20 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. Alexzandria Glover had 16 points, seven steals, six rebounds and two assists, and Aliya Herron had 13 points and four steals. Arieyanna Glover tacked on eight points, seven steals and three assists.

In the boys game, Yazoo City handed the Bulldogs their second straight loss as the Indians won 48-40 to drop GHS to 14-5 overall and 0-2 in district.

The Indians led 16-8 after one, 18-13 at the half and 30-21 after the third.

DeAndre Smith led Greenwood with eight points and two assists, and Jaydon Nwachi, Montrelle Harris and Quanterius Silas had six points each.

Greenwood hosts Rosa Fort Friday.

n Carroll Academy: The Rebels upped their District 2 North 3A mark to 4-1 with a 71-43 thrashing of Central Holmes Tuesday night in Lexington.

Both teams netted 15 points each in the first period but Carroll went in front 35-21 by halftime. A 16-11 run in the third gave the Rebels a 51-32 advantage headed to the final period.

Reese Fulton led Carroll (11-2) with 27 points and 13 rebounds.

Logan Taylor had 15 points, and Austin Smith tallied 11. Bryce Collier had 10 points.

In the girls game, the Lady Rebels dropped to 2-3 in district with a 54-44 loss to Central Holmes, which led 14-7 after one, 29-23 at the half and 42-33 after the third.

Mary Jordan Milton led CA (14-10) with 11 points and seven boards. Gracie Turner had 10 points and 14 rebounds, and Dru Chamblee and Mary Lakyn Boutwell had 10 points apiece. Lainey Claire Dunn had nine rebounds and two steals.

Carroll hosts Indianola Friday.

n Leflore County: The Tigers picked up a big 49-45 Region 6-1A win over Simmons High School Tuesday night in Hollandale.

Leflore (2-14, 2-2) led 20-7 after one, 28-20 at the half and 42-34 after the third.

Derrick Singleton led the Tigers with 12 points, and Cameron Williams tallied seven.

In the girls game, Simmons won 54-23 as it led 16-6 after one, 24-8 at the half and 43-16 after the third.

Jakya Thompson led Leflore (4-11, 1-3) with 16 points.

Leflore is at Ruleville Friday.
