Greenwood High School track athletes qualified in seven events for this weekend’s North 4A meet to be held Saturday at Pontotoc High School.
The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs ran in the Region 2-4A meet on April 15 in Olive Branch. The top four in each event qualified for North State.
Jireh Nivels captured the only first-place medal for GHS as she won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.87.
Arieyanna Glover was third in the high jump in 4-06, and Sydney Brooks placed fourth in the girls discus competition with a throw of 66-05.
For the boys, the 4x100 relay team came in second with a time of 44.01, and the 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams both finished third with times of 1:34.87 and 9:43.44, respectively.
Johnathan Brown placed fourth in the long jump in 19-05. Brown just missed out on qualifying in the triple jump as he had a distance of 39-10 to finish fifth. He was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:25.71. Mikeldrick Burch ran in three events. He was fifth in the 3200-meter run in 14:59.62, seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:28.31, and seventh in the 3200-meter run in 14:59.62.
n Carroll Academy: Austin Smith picked up the only first-place honor for the Rebels at the District 1-AA meet held April 17 at Marshall Academy in Holly Springs.
Smith won the shot put with a throw of 43-03.50, and he was second in the discus with a throw of 110-07. Jeb Beck had a second in the shot put in 41-01. Logan Hodges came in fourth in the discus with a toss of 106-08.
Drew Thomas placed second in the 1600 run in 5:38.43, and third in the 3200 run in the 12:59.35. Noah Beck came in third in both the 800 run (2:32.81) and the 300 hurdles (50.40). Bryce Collier had a third in the 110 hurdles in 20.29 and a fourth in the 200 dash in 25.17.
Morgan Mims was fourth in the long jump in 16-10.25.
The 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams came in third in both events with times of 3:58.33 and 10:31.46. The 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams were fourth in 49.69 and 1:40.31.
For the girls, Mary Jordan Milton had a third and a fourth in the shot put and discus with throws of 26-03 and 68-00, respectively. Dru Chamblee was fourth in the discus with a throw of 70-11.
Destiny Kelly came in fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:00.67. The 4x800 relay team was third in 12:20, and the 4x400 relay team finished fourth in 5:27.
The North AA meet will be held Wednesday and Saturday at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
