The Leflore County High School boys qualified in six events for this weekend’s State 2A track meet at the North State meet held Saturday at Potts Camp High School.

The Tigers’ 4x200 relay team, which consists of Willie McCline, Anthony Johnson, Dekari Johnson and Vedarius Fipps, finished first with a time of 1:31.61. Leflore also qualified in the 3,200 relay in a time of 9:16 to place third overall. Members of that team are Anthony Johnson, Fipps, Antwon Gibson and Lawrence Kyles.

The 400 relay team came in fourth with a time of 45.25. Team members are the same four as the 200 squad.

McCline will be competing in two individual events as he placed second in the 100-meter dash in 11.13 and third in the 200-meter dash in 23.08.

Junior Maurice Edwards grabbed third in the discus throw with a toss of 102-09.

The Leflore girls were only in the 1,600 relay and finished seventh with a time of 5:21.32.

The State 2A meet will be held Saturday at Pearl High School.

n North 4A: Greenwood High School qualified in a total of three events for the State 4A meet at this past weekend’s North State meet at Pontotoc High School.

Junior Jireh Nevels qualified in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a third place in 12.76 seconds. Freshman Arieyanna Glover was fourth in the high jump in 4-07.

For the boys,the 4x100 relay team came in second in 44.51 seconds. Team members are Travor Randle, Jamarion Addison, Daylen Metcalf and Kobe Chambers.

The 4A will run on Saturday.

n North 3A: Amanda Elzy and J.Z. George competed in the North 2A meet Saturday at Winona High School.

Elzy qualified in three girls events and in one boys event for the State 3A meet, which will take place Friday at Pearl High School.

The Lady Panthers’ 1,600 relay team of Janay Williams, Janiya Sims, Jocylynn Moore and Tychristian Smith was second in 4:38.95.

Gabrielle Boyd took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41, and the 4x200 relay team of Jakeeria Walker, Moore, Khadajah Harris and Smith was fourth in 1:54.60.

For the Panthers, La’Andre Pittman placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 111 feet.

For J.Z. George, senior Montavis Jenkins was second in the discus in 121 feet, 11 inches.

The 4x800 relay team of Malik Branch, Devonte Smith, Ceasa Glenn and Marquinn Watt was fourth in 9:25.
