Carroll Academy got off to the kind of start head coach Bo Milton wanted in District 2-3A play against visiting Benton Academy Friday night in Carrollton.

The Rebels scored at will in the first half as they pounded the Raiders 51-12. The Rebels, who improve to 3-0 overall, entertain Class 4A Tri-County Academy next week.

“We felt confident in this game, and we wanted to make sure we had the mental preparedness as we get ready for a very good Tri-County team next week. They are a 4A team, and it will be a good measuring stick for our team,” said Milton of TCA, which beat Sylva-Bay 41-21 Friday night.

Carroll had its way on offense with Benton. The Rebels led 16-0 after the first frame and 43-6 at the half. They scored one time in the third as Benton (2-2, 0-1) tallied one TD in the fourth.

Senior quarterback/running back Morgan Mims led the onslaught with 171 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. He scored from quarterback on runs of three and 75 yards, and got his third TD on a 63-yard run when he moved to tailback. He also kicked three extra points and had one 2-point conversion run.

Braxton York had 85 yards on three carries and scored on a 90-yard run in the second period. Hunter Bracken tacked on 59 yards on four tries and scored on a 42-yard run, also in the second frame.

John Marc O’Cain, who ran for 43 yards on two carries, scored on a 41-yard run. Hunter Grantham had a 10-yard TD run in the third quarter. He had 22 yards rushing on three tries. Corbin Walker had 27 yards on five totes.

Reese Fulton led the defense with 61/2 tackles. Hunter Brower, Mims and Cooper Beck all recovered a fumble, and York and Walker both intercepted a pass.

n Amanda Elzy 44, O’Bannon 0 — The Panthers are one of four Greenwood-area teams to reach 3-0 on the young season as they beat O’Bannon High School Friday night in Greenville.

 Elzy goes to North Side High School next week.

n West Bolivar 28, J.Z. George 15 — The Jaguars failed in their bid to reach 3-0 as West Bolivar came out on top Friday night in North Carrollton.

The Jaguars led 7-6 at the half on a Jacob Johnson TD run and a PAT kick from Wil’tavious Williams. In the second half, Johnson scored his second TD and tacked on the 2-point run to give the home team a 15-14 lead headed into the fourth period.

West Bolivar scored in the final frame and led 20-15. J.Z. George was intercepted in the final minute and the pick was returned for a touchdown by the Eagles.

The Jaguars go to Winona High School next week. The Tigers beat Kosciusko 35-28 Friday night.

n Tallulah Academy 56, Delta Streets Academy 30 — The Lions fell behind 30-6 after one quarter as the Trojans pulled off the win Friday night in Tallulah, La.

Darius Johnson scored three times for Delta Streets, which falls to 0-3 overall. He had a 72-yard kickoff return in the first period, a 46-yard TD reception from AJ McGee in the third frame, and a 54-yard run on a reverse in the fourth quarter.

McGee and Jaylen Prayer hooked up for a 50-yard touchdown strike in the third. McGee hit Terry Carpenter with a 2-point conversion pass, and McGee ran in for two additional 2-pointers to account for the Lions’ scoring.

Delta Streets plays at Lee Academy in Marianna, Ark., next week.
