Mississippi State, Mike Leach’s new team, has announced a home-and-home football series with his former squad Washington State. But it’s well down the line.
The series will take place in 2030 and 2031. Mississippi State will host WSU on Aug. 31, 2030, then the Bulldogs will travel to Pullman, Washington, on Aug. 30, 2031.
It will be the first meetings between the two programs.
“We’re thrilled to add another home-and-home series against a quality opponent and institution like Washington State to our future schedules,” MSU Director of Athletics John Cohen said in a statement. “These ... should be an exciting opportunity and experience for our student-athletes and fans.”
Mississippi State has not played a Pac-12 opponent since the Bulldogs hosted Oregon in 2003. MSU also has future series announced with Pac-12 opponents Arizona in 2022-2023 and Arizona State in 2024-2025.
Leach spent eight seasons at the helm of Washington State before taking the job in Starkville. He helped lead the Cougars to 55-47 overall record and a 36-36 conference record.
His best season in Pullman came in 2017 when WSU went 11-2 and finished the season ranked No. 10 in the country.
nOle Miss tickets: Nobody knows how the college football season will look, or if it will even happen, but Ole Miss is beginning to make plans with the intention of having as many fans as possible in attendance.
Ole Miss provided an update on football ticket sales and how their selection process of tickets will go if capacity limitations are placed on Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
With COVID-19 still an active threat and professional sports starting to resume without fans at first, the NCAA and other individual conferences have not made any decision on what will be permitted come September.
“Obviously that message that we sent out, our goal and our intention is to be at full capacity if we can,” associate athletic director and chief revenue officer Wesley Owen told the Oxford Eagle. “Knowing that things could change at any point, and we knew it was going to be fluid, there is a possibility of reduced capacity. We wanted to make sure that we laid out that plan in advance rather than trying to come back and try to figure out how we would do it.”
If capacity limitations are necessary, the following steps will be taken in order by Ole Miss regarding ticket priority:
Season ticket holders that renewed by the June 15 deadline
Athletics Foundation priority points
After the deadline and if there is still availability, orders would be filled based on the date the order was received.
