The Mississippi Department of Transportation will send a crew out Tuesday to find out why the lights along the U.S. 82-49 overpass have not been working.
Brian Childs, a maintenance engineer with MDOT’s District 2 office, which covers Leflore and neighboring counties, said Monday that he was unaware that the lights along the Greenwood overpass had not been functioning.
He said lightbulbs go out from time to time, and in some cases circuit breakers can trip following bad weather.
Greenwood resident Martha Randall said she had noticed the lights at the U.S. 82-49 overpass have not been working at night for at least the past two weeks.
Though she doesn’t drive through the overpass at night frequently, she’s noticed that on recent drives the overpass “seems to be very dark and dangerous.”
“I just think we need lights there,” she said.
