In his op-ed column (“Despite scandal, why I remain a Catholic,” March 23), Tim Kalich stated that he believes “there are many paths to heaven, and Catholicism does not have the only map on how to get there.”
Actually according to the Bible, there is only one way to heaven and that way is only through the promised Messiah from Old Testament prophecies. In the New Testament, the promised Messiah is revealed to be Jesus.
The Gospel of John states many times that eternal life is given to any person who believes that Jesus is the promised Messiah from Old Testament prophecies and trusts in Him. A church or denomination is not necessary or needed for a person to execute his or her trust in the Messiah for eternal life.
A few verses from John that speak to this:
“‘You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.’”
“‘Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.’”
“Then they said to Him, ‘What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.’”
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”
“She said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord. I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.’”
