Greenwood High School’s football team is disappointed to come up again one win short of playing for a state championship.

Friday’s loss to Corinth is the fourth time in six years that the Bulldogs have been denied at the North 4A finals.

What makes Friday’s loss perhaps the toughest of all is that this may have been coach Clinton Gatewood’s best team, as the Bulldogs won 13 straight and were rarely challenged.

The disappointment will ease with time, and the players and coaches will come to savor what a special season they had. It didn’t end the way they hoped because they had admirably high expectations. But 13-1 is nothing to sneeze at.

It was a great year, championship or not.
