Katherine Bailey Gibbs, 77, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 19, 2019, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet and the Rev. Dennis Gossett officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oregon Church Cemetery near Lexington. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Katherine was born to Grady and Eunice Bailey in Lexington. She graduated from Holmes Junior College and finished her degree at Delta State University. Later she returned to Delta State, where she earned her master’s degree. She taught school in the Winona Public Schools and Bankston Elementary School and was later principal for the Indianola elementary school.

Katherine was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, attended First United Methodist Church and sang in both choirs. She was a member of The Greenwood Chorale and volunteered for the Greenwood Mentoring Group.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Everarde Jones and Ray Gibbs; and two sisters, Geraldine Popham and Vivian Bailey. She is survived by her brother, the Rev. Grady Bailey, and his wife, Jenny, of Brandon and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church; First United Methodist Church; the Greenwood Mentoring Group, P.O. Box 9166 Greenwood, MS 38935; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
