WINONA — Funeral services for Mrs. Florence R. Beard of Coila will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Black Hawk Methodist Church in Black Hawk, with burial following in Shute Cemetery near Black Hawk.

The Rev. Larry Edwards and the Rev. Jack Marshall will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Paul Rodrigue, Ernie Watts, Marion Boggs, John Walker, James Funderburk and Lanny Fratesi. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Boler, Gary Phillips, Doug Everett, Wilton Sanders, Ricky Reese and the nurses of Sta-Home Hospice.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Sunday until service time at the church.

Mrs. Beard, 104, passed away at her home on Thursday, Oct. 10. She was born in Holmes County on Sept. 21, 1915, and was the daughter of the late Samuel P. and Jessie Florence Deese Robertson. She was a homemaker and a member of Black Hawk Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis “Boy” Beard; two sons, Joe G. Beard and J.B. Beard; two grandchildren, Gene Beard and Shirley Jo Beard; and her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Beard is survived by two daughters, Shirley Yates of Vaiden and Mary Jo Smith of Ocean Springs; four sons, Robert Lewis Beard Jr. of Black Hawk, Pepper Beard of McCarley, Miller Beard of Black Hawk and William “Stuffy” Beard of Carrollton; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Black Hawk Methodist Church.
