A resident of Greenwood for 60 years, Mrs. Switzer was born the youngest of four children to Emmett and Ora Brantley on Sept. 4, 1936. After graduating from Durant High School, where she was crowned homecoming queen, she went to work for an insurance company in Greenwood and shortly thereafter met and married her husband, Billy Switzer.

Mrs. Switzer served for many years as administrative assistant at Daves Monument Company, where she and Billy worked before retiring 16 years ago. She was a longtime member of North Greenwood Baptist Church and was known for her warm heart and willingness to help friends and family any time they needed it. She loved to read and work in the yard, enjoyed her plants and flowers, was an excellent cook, and restored and collected antiques.

Mrs. Switzer was predeceased 10 months by her husband of 59 years, William Autry “Billy” Switzer, and also was predeceased by her parents, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Switzer of Birmingham, Alabama, and several nephews and nieces.

Paula would like to extend a special thanks to Beauty Meeks, Teresa Peeples, Cassandra Streeter, Suzette Meeks, Charlie Mae Carradine, Catherine Davis, and Velensia Carradine for their care of her parents over the past 15 months.

Pallbearers will be David Taylor, Russell Robertson, Miller Arant, Jeff Crick, Peter Jenkins and George Clark.
