WINONA — Graveside services for Sgt. 1st Class R B Ladner Jr. of Winona will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael. 

The Rev. Eddie Carpenter will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Andrew Allen, Stewart Ladner, Danny Varnes Jr., Jonathon David Harris, Tim Ansley, John Ansley, Matthew Varnes and Lee Sparks.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oliver Funeral Home.

Mr. Ladner, 69, passed away at his home in Winona on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019. He was born in Lizana, Mississippi, on April 27, 1950. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves after 28 years of service and a civil service retiree after 35 years of service. He was a member of Hays Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Armstrong Ladner of Winona; two daughters, Brandy Ladner Allen (Jonathon Harris) of Greenwood and Kerri Varnes (Danny Jr.) of Stewart; three sisters, Faye Muirhead of Madison, Nancy Behm of Baldwin, Florida, and stepsister Annie Armstrong of Winona; one brother, Larry Ladner of Saucier; four grandchildren, DeLana Sparks, Andrew Allen, Cassidy Allen and Lauren Allen; great-granddaughter ReaLeigh Sparks; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Logan Ladner Carter; his father, R B Ladner; his stepfather, Walter Carter; sisters Elaine Cruise and Sara Scarbough; and brothers Shirley Ladner, Levoy Ladner, Floyd Ladner and Charles Ladner.

Memorial contributions may be made to any veteran-affiliated charity of the donor’s choice.
