Newsmakers for May 11, 2019:
•The Greenwood Rotary Club has selected Maricia Dunlap of Amanda Elzy High School, Floyd Melton IV of Pillow Academy and La’Tavia Williams of Greenwood High School as Students of the Year. The honor comes with a $1,500 college scholarship for the three seniors, who graduate from high school this month. Dunlap is the daughter of Patricia and Maurice Dunlap of Greenwood. She plans to attend Mississippi State University and major in psychology. Melton is the son of Lisa and Floyd Melton III of Greenwood. He plans to attend the University of Mississippi and major in accounting. Williams is the granddaughter of Rosie Williams of Greenwood. She plans to attend Mississippi Valley State University and major in social work.
•Kaysi Jackson of Greenwood graduated with an online associate’s degree in criminal justice from Grantham University, an online university.
•Tucker Tindle of McCarley was among several Northwest Mississippi Community College students inducted into the Theta Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) in a ceremony held on the Senatobia campus on April 22. PTK is an international scholastic and leadership honor society for two-year colleges. Students working toward associate’s degrees are eligible for membership. Northwest requires a 3.5 grade point average for initiation and membership in PTK. Members are eligible for scholarships at universities throughout the nation.
