Locus Benedictus Retreat Center will host a retreat titled “Empowered by Love, Part 2: Let’s Make Hell Tremble.” When: 7 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday. McClain Missionary Baptist Church, two miles south of Itta Bena, will conclude its  revival services. When: 7 p.m. Details: The evangelists are the Rev. Tony Ray and the Rev. Joe Mays Jr.

Saturday, June 8

Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church’s Missionary Society Ministry will have a give-away featuring clothes, shoes and household items, When/where: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the pavilion behind the church. Details: The event will be canceled if it rains.

New Zion Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 123rd anniversary. When: A church family and community picnic will be held at noon Saturday in the parking lot, and the anniversary program will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. Details: The Rev. Vincent Russell, pastor of Greater Fairview M.B. Church in Jackson, will speak Sunday on the theme “Christians Building the Foundation for God’s Temple.”

The Salvation Army will have a retirement celebration honoring Carlos Barbosa, manager of the family store, for 30 years of service to the community. When/where: Noon at the family store’s new location on Mississippi 7 (indoors if inclement weather arises). Details: There will be music, food and fellowship.

Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church in Carrollton will hold its annual Youth Night Celebration. When: 6 p.m. Details: The Children of Praise Community Choir will render special music. Youth choirs and praise dancers will be the guests. The celebration will continue at 11 a.m. Sunday, when the Rev. Ozell Landfair Jr., the church’s pastor, will speak. The colors for the celebration are white, pink and silver.

A Gospel Music Jubilee will be held. When/where: 6 p.m. at Gore Springs Community Center. Details: Admission charge is $5. Featured performers will include Gospel Echoes, Erwin Cook and Blessed Assurance. There will be a concession stand with hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage dogs and drinks.

Holmes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will have a 13th-anniversary program for its pastor, Elder Mary L. Clark. When: 11:30 a.m. Details: Bishop Jasper Booker of House of Prayer Outreach Ministry in Drew will speak.

Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2½ miles east of Sidon, will celebrate its anniversary. When: 11:30 a.m. Details: The theme is “Looking Back Many Years” (Deuteronomy 2:7).

Ebenezer Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of McCarley will have its homecoming and 159th anniversary celebration. When: 2:30 p.m. Details: The guest speaker will Rev. Troy Miller, pastor of Eden C.M.E. Church of McCarley.

Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual Youth Day Weekend Praise Extravaganza. When: 6 p.m. June 14 and 11 a.m. June 16. Details: On June 14, the youth and young adults will host a “Youth Night Out Praise Celebration” showcasing such talents as praise dancers, soloists, oratorical expressions, group performances and more.
