Thankful giving

Lee Horn, right, adds turkey to plates held by Eddie Jean Smith on Tuesday at the Leflore County Civic Center. Horn and Smith, both members of Sycamore Street Church of Christ, were two of about 85 volunteers who were cooking, serving and assembling plates at Montrell Greene Ministries’ sixth annual Thanksgiving meal delivery event. More than 2,500 people in a four-county area — including Leflore, Carroll, Sunflower and Holmes counties — were served Thanksgiving meals of turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. Volunteers represented various local churches and fraternities and sororities. Dr. Montrell Greene, pastor of Sycamore Street Church of Christ, said, “People are just coming together to help other people and serve other people.” In the spirit of Thanksgiving Day, Greene said, “We are thankful, so we give.”
