More details have emerged about a Monday afternoon shooting in the Baptist Town neighborhood of Greenwood that has led to the hospitalization of four Greenwood residents.

Police Chief Ray Moore said the police have a person of interest in the shooting but did not provide  more information.

Around 5:30 p.m. Monday,   police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Young Street.

According to eyewitnesses, multiple gunshots were fired by an unknown person or persons and that a “dark-colored vehicle” was seen leaving the area, Moore said.

Officers were then told that four people with gunshot wounds had been taken by private vehicles to Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Two were later transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. One was airlifted, and the other one was carried there by ambulance.

The chief said he’s unaware of the conditions of the four people shot. He also said several shell casings were recovered at the crime scene but did not specify what type of gun was used.
