A Greenwood man was in the Leflore County Jail on a charge of manslaughter Wednesday after his indictment by a Leflore County grand jury in the death of another man in August 2017.
Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore said Henry Dexter Greene, 51, 908 South Blvd., stopped Trevose Stansberry, 30, from attacking his mother — Greene’s girlfriend — in the yard of their home on Madison Avenue.
Moore said Greene had Stansberry in a chokehold on the front lawn at the residence and told police he was keeping Stansberry from going for a gun in his car. Moore said police found no weapon in the car.
The Commonwealth reported in 2017 that officers found Stansberry unresponsive and began performing CPR while calling for an ambulance. He was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital but died two days later.
Moore said police were given conflicting accounts and the matter was presented to a grand jury, which returned an indictment on a charge of manslaughter.
