As of now, there are 21 positive cases in the state, four of which are in Leflore County. That is second highest only to Hinds County, which has six. There have been no deaths reported in Mississippi as a result of the COVID-19 virus.

The first case in Leflore County — an adult female — was reported last Friday.

That patient is recovering at home. Greenwood Leflore Hospital declined to say how many of the patient’s coworkers had been in contact with her but said that they are being observed, monitored and quarantined.

The hospital could not immediately be reached for comment about the latest cases.

Most people who come down with the disease have relatively mild symptoms, but it can be deadly for some, especially the elderly and those with underlying health problems. Most people infected with the virus recover in a matter of weeks.

Coronavirus infections across the country reached approximately 4,700, and the death toll climbed to at least 93, with more than half of the victims from Washington state. Worldwide, more than 7,300 have died.
