A Greenwood man was shot and killed Friday afternoon in Leflore County’s first homicide of the year.
Coroner Debra Sanders identified the victim as Kenton Johnson, a 24-year-old resident of Curtis Moore Apartments. He was shot, apparently around 2:30 p.m., in front of 622 Ave. I, which is at the corner of Avenue I and Broad Street.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. A crowd of people gathered. Among them were two women who were crying and one said, “That’s my brother!”
Deputy Police Chief Marvin Hammond said he couldn’t immediately provide any information regarding the homicide.
