Mary Golliday of Parkwood Behavioral Health Systems presents a contract to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors at the board’s meeting on Monday.

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors approved a contract Monday for an anchor tenant for the Leflore County business incubator building.

The building is in Itta Bena across U.S. 82 from Mississippi Valley State University. Angela Curry, executive director of the Greenwood Leflore Industrial Board, presented the contract to the board.

The board went into a 35-minute closed session to discuss details of the contract, and no action was taken within the session, Board President Robert Collins reported. However, after the closed session, the board voted to approve the contract, pending undisclosed changes that were discussed during the executive session.

Curry said afterward that the tenant would not be identified until a lease is signed, which could come as early as this week.

Also Monday, the board:

• Approved a contract with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) for one year.

MDOC will provide food to the adult offenders in the Leflore County Jail, as well as the juvenile offenders in the detention facility in downtown Greenwood.

The county must pay $4.95 per offender, which covers three meals at $1.65 per meal. The number of meals provided cannot exceed current capacity, which is 200 for adult offenders and 30 for juvenile offenders.

• Approved a contract with Parkwood Behavioral Health Systems.  It is the same as the last one the county had with them, apart from an increase in the fee for taking care of patients. The previous fee was $600 per patient, which covered room and board, routine therapy, history and physical, routine pharmacy, physician fees, psychological testing and medical services. Now the fee is $650.

The county will be responsible for transporting committed patients to and from Parkwood and paying the fee. This one-year contract is conditional and locks in the fee if they decide to use Parkwood. They are not contractually obligated to use Parkwood exclusively.

• Approved the appointment of Jerry Williams as a deputy for the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department. He is a certified officer and will make $13.50 per hour.
