A Greenwood man died Saturday evening after being shot several times.

Police Chief Ray Moore said his department received a call reporting that shots had been fired in the 400 block of Oak Street at approximately 5:45 p.m.

Police found Devin Cain, 31, lying on the pavement, unresponsive, Moore said. Cain was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Moore, Cain lived on Avenue C but had family and friends in the Oak Street area.

Several shell casings of the same caliber were recovered at the scene and will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson to determine whether they are from the same weapon, Moore said.

He said police currently have no suspects.

Cain’s death marks the seventh homicide in Leflore County this year, all of which involved firearms.
