A Greenwood man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting a month ago that wounded another man in the stomach.
The Police Department charged Kenton Lamont Johnson, 23, 707 Ave. L, on Wednesday. He had been behind bars since Sunday, Chief Ray Moore said.
On May 15, at 6:44 p.m., the Police Department received a call in reference to a gunshot victim at David Jordan Apartments along Avenue E. When police arrived, they found Benjamin Kinds, 21, of Greenwood with a gunshot wound to his stomach, Moore said.
Kinds told police that he was at Wash Time Car Wash along Mississippi 7 when he got into an argument with Johnson. Kinds said Johnson then took his gun and shot Kinds, Moore said. Kinds then drove himself back to David Jordan Apartments.
At the time of the shooting, Kinds was not able to identify Johnson by his name, but he later recognized his face.
Johnson was behind bars on $15,000 bond Thursday.
