Mr. and Mrs. John Hilton Black

Ellen Lawrence Hull and John Hilton Black, both of Madison, were united in marriage at 6 p.m. on May 19, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Rusty Douglas.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. James Kent Hull of Greenwood and the late Mr. Hull. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. George Ellett Lawrence of Greenwood and the late Mr. Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ray Hull of Vaiden and the late Sylvia Allen Hand of Dekalb.

The groom is the son of Ms. Jan Colbert Black and Mr. Robert Terace Black III both of Madison. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank William Colbert Jr. of Forest and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Terace Black Jr. of Sylacauga, Alabama.

The bride, given in marriage by her brother, James Andrew Hull, wore an A-line Legends by Romona Keveza dress from Elle James Bridal of ivory French embroidered lace with a nude underlay. The gown featured a V-neckline and off-the-shoulder straps with an illusion lace back finished with buttons and a chapel-length train. Her veil of silk illusion featured a mantilla edge with lace worn by her mother.

She carried a bouquet of white majolika sweetheart roses, casa blanca lilies, alstroemeria and 13 white peonies, which was her father’s lucky number. Tied into the bouquet were her gold baby bracelet given to her by her father and an Irish linen handkerchief given to her by her maternal grandparents.

Attending the bride as matron of honor was Molly Black Blakeney of Flora.

Bridesmaids were Blair McDonald Hull of Oxford, sister-in-law of the bride; Valerie Moss Andrews of Hattiesburg; Anna Bush Warr of Charleston, South Carolina; Ann Claire Mullin Hayes of Lake Village, Arkansas; and Caroline King Haynes of Flora.

The bridesmaids wore steel blue chiffon sleeveless dresses featuring a V-neckline and back with a waist tie belt at the back and carried bouquets of white hydrangeas, Tibet roses, alstroemeria, monte cassino and baby’s breath.

Attending the groom as best man was his father, Robert Terace Black III of Madison.

Groomsmen were Joey Carver Black of Madison, brother of the groom; James Andrew Hull of Oxford, brother of the bride; Terry Brooks Ables, Mitchell Parker Brock and William Halsell Moore IV, all of Madison.

Parker Tisdale Hull of Oxford, niece of the bride, served as flower girl.

Ring bearers were James Pittman Ellis of Greenwood, cousin of the bride; and Jax Gabriel Mitchell and Knox Samuel Mitchell, both of Raymond, cousins of the groom.

The altar in the church was done in all white featuring variegated pittosporum, casa blanca lilies, alstroemeria, Ecuadorian Tibet roses, dendrobium orchids from Thailand, large calla lilies, hydrangeas and baby’s breath.

Nuptial music was provided by soloist Mrs. Mickey Leroy Black and organist the Rev. Doyne Ray Smithee.

Mrs. Glenn Field Beckham served as the wedding director.

Jordan Mitchell Walker of Ridgeland served as the bride’s proxy.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom departed the church in a 1967 red Ford Mustang provided by Dynamite Kirk for the reception which was held at the Greenwood Country Club.

The portico entrance to the country club was decorated with a canopy of fresh assorted greenery and hanging blown glass globes with blue hydrangeas inside which hung over the registry table. Two large arrangements in gold trumpet vases were used on the entrance tables and contained blue hydrangeas, white casa blanca lilies, alstrom orchids, Tibet roses, majolika sweetheart roses, snap dragons, monte cassino and baby’s breath. These same flowers were used throughout the club in assorted-sized arrangements on the tables along with tea candles.

The guests were served from buffet tables featuring a large arrangement of blue and white hydrangeas, willow eucalyptus, ti-leaves, white case blanca lilies, calla lilies, snapdragons, Tibet roses, dendrobium orchids and baby’s breath.

The bride’s wedding cake was displayed in the foyer and was a six-tier almond cake with almond butter icing. Each tier was surrounded by blue hydrangeas, and 13 tea candles were displayed along the mirrored base. The bride and groom had their first toast using the champagne glasses her parents used on their wedding day.

The groom’s Mississippi State-themed table featured a two-layer square cake.

The strawberry and chocolate layers were both iced in chocolate and topped with an MSU Peter’s Pottery bulldog and fresh strawberries. The bride’s father’s MSU football helmet and cowbell along with 13 tea candles were displayed on the table. Also on the table was a picture of the bride’s golden retriever, Cash, wearing a “Dog of Honor” bandana.

Entertainment was provided by Funkytown of Memphis.

The flowers for the wedding and reception and the bride and groom’s cakes were provided by Karyn Burrus and Kim Kellum of The Grapevine Floral and Cakes in Greenwood.

Capturing the couples wedding memories were photographers Micah Green of Atlanta and Guy Davenport of Nashville and videographer Johnny Jennings of Greenwood.

On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Greenwood Country Club. A bridal luncheon was hosted the day of the wedding in the bride’s suite at The Alluvian Hotel by friends of the bride’s family. A skeet shoot was held for the groomsmen on the morning of the wedding at Holly Grove in Sidon followed by a lunch at Serio’s hosted by the groom’s aunts.

After a honeymoon to St. Lucia, the couple are at home in Madison. The bride is a registered nurse at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, and the groom is the logistics coordinator with KLLM Transport Services in Richland.
