Larry Wayne Nester Sr., 71 passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at UAB hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, with his family by his side. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Mississippi VA Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael with the Rev. T. Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.
Larry was a lifelong resident of Carroll County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired as a heavy equipment operator with Nelson Material and was also a disabled American veteran. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, growing flowers and gardening. He and his wife helped raise seven foster children. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Wayne Nester Jr., and his parents, Robert and Johnnie Nester.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Minga Nester; a son, James Scott Nester (Holly); three sisters, Linda Harper Jackson (Dale), Patricia Jean Everett (Kenny), Evelyn Ruth Hollis; two brothers, James Hartford Nester (Carolyn) and John Rayburn Nester (Norma) all of Carrollton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Melton, Leonard (Big Stuff) Anderson, Andy Harper, Jim Nester, Andy Ferguson, Ryan Christopher Stringfellow and John Rayburn Jr.
Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church.
