Audit or no audit, Donald Trump will never willingly release his tax returns. He made that obvious when he was running for president in 2016. Nothing has changed since then.
His acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, may be correct that Trump’s supporters don’t care what secrets might lie hidden within the president’s filings with the Internal Revenue Service. There also are tax experts who say even if the returns were released, they might tell very little other than whether the president has been exaggerating his wealth, as most suspect.
Still, it would be interesting to see.
