Leflore County Community Health Advisors Men in Black and Blue Fighting Prostate Cancer will have a worship service. When/where: 3 p.m. at Samuel Chapel M.B. Church near the Rising Sun subdivision. Details: J.C. Stokes, pastor of St. John M.B. Church in Winona, will speak. The theme is “Man’s Reasonable Service.”

Community Baptist Church will have its annual Men and Women’s Day. When: 3 p.m. Details: Elder Rena Baker, pastor of East Percy Street Christian Church, will speak. She is the only child born to J.D. and Earnestine Haymon and also the daughter of Wade Addison. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Mississippi Valley State University. She is enrolled in Abundant Theological Seminary in Tchula and employed by Greenwood Leflore Hospital as the office coordinator of Magnolia Medical Clinic. She has two children — Deonte, 29, and Destyne, 13 — and a grandchild, Kameron, 8. At East Percy, she has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and now teaches Sunday school and Bible school. She is the Past Worthy Matron of Lady Martha Chapter No. 44-A of the Order of the Eastern Star. She received her calling into ministry in November 2006 and delivered her first sermon in March 2007. Choir members are invited to form a combined choir, which will rehearse at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The colors are black and pink.

McKinney Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will have a musical extravaganza. When: 5 p.m. Details: Musical guests will include the Men of Zion, the Providence Male Choir, the Melody Kings, the Greenwood Male Choir and more.

Saturday, November 3

The Ladies in Faith Empowerment Conference will be held. When/where: 9 a.m. at Monument of Grace Church’s Bishop L.J. Johnson Family Life Center. Details: The speaker will be Deona E. Benson, a certified Christian counselor and life coach who is co-pastor and co-founder of the University of Life Church and founder of Beyond the Break in Oxford. Experts also will speak on topics including finance, banking and credit repair; clothing; health, wellness and beauty; and mental health. There also will be gospel singing beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 2, featuring The Wilson Singers, Annie and the Caldwells, The Dynamic Jewels, Accord and the Gospel Lites. A $30 ticket will provide admission to both events, or those attending may pay separately at the door. Vendor space is limited and may be reserved by paying $25. Strangers’ Home Missionary Baptist Church will have its 61st annual Women’s Day. When: 11 a.m. Details: Beverly Brown Sullivan of Locust Grove M.B. Church will speak. The theme is “Women: Women on the Move Edifying God and Nurturing His People.” The choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. The colors are pink and black.

Jones Chapel No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual Women’s Day. When: 11 a.m. Details: Lyvon Morris, first lady of Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church, will speak. The theme is “God Positioning Women for Favor.” The colors are black, fuchsia and ivory. Women are invited to join a choir, which will rehearse at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and Oct. 29.

New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual homecoming. When: 2:30 p.m. Details: The Rev. Jessie Payne Jr. of Providence Missionary Baptist Church will speak.

Vaiden Friendship Baptist Church will have a 300 Women in White March. When: 3 p.m. Details: Missionary Tammy Hughes will speak. Those who do not have white should wear black.

Sunday, November 11

Bethel Christian Church will have its Thanksgiving brunch. When: 11:30 a.m.

Helm Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Carrollton will hold its annual Men’s Day. When:  3 p.m.  Details: The Rev. Wayne Williams, presiding elder of the Greenwood-Jackson District and pastor of Lynch Street CME Church in Jackson, will speak.  Music will be provided by the Carroll County Community Male Choir, which is made up of men of all denominations.  Rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the church.
