Fire extinguished on Avenue I

The Greenwood Fire Department responded to the report of a fire early Sunday morning at the Sherman’s Stop N Shop store at 300 Ave. I. Seven firefighters came to the scene with four pieces of equipment and found a small portion of an outer wall in a corner of the building had been set on fire. Firefighters used a pike pole and axe to open up the portion of the building where the fire occurred and pumped 120 gallons of water onto the wall to extinguish the fire. It took firefighters about 44 minutes to clear the scene.
